Your "Go to" Person

Debbi Goolsby

“Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts before Him. God is our refuge.”  Psalm 62:8

I’m riding in my car with 3 preschool kids in the back seat and I’m crying out to the Lord. You see, I had tried to call a dear friend with no answer on her phone (cell phones were not as prevalent at that time) and my mom was in the garden so she wasn’t able to “hear me”. I really needed to talk with someone, but who was there? So I’m crying out to the Lord with this very complaint. “There’s no one to listen to me, what am I to do?” As plainly as I heard the music playing in my office at that moment, I heard the Lord say to me “But what about me?” Wow!

David sang to the God who listens. “Trust in Him at all times… pour out your hearts before Him.” So why was I looking to others to help me through a difficult situation when all the time I had the best listener there? Why don’t I think to go to God first when I have something to say? He never has something more pressing than to talk with me, He does not have call waiting or a hold button. My Abba Father waits patiently for me to talk to Him at any time. As parents, it is a desire of our heart for our kids to come to us at any time to talk, so what am I waiting for? David said in Psalm 3:4, “I cry aloud to the Lord, and He answers me from His holy mountain.” He isn’t distracted by another incoming call, He answers me!

So as you go about your day today, why not start your day with the one who is ready to listen to you? Why not tell God about your day in the morning? He already knows what you are about to say, but by telling Him first, you are letting Him know (and yourself) that He is the single most important One in your life and you want to start with Him. And guess what, He is always listening.

Thank you Jesus for being my "Go to" Person!
