"And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us." Acts 17:26-27
Not too long ago, we celebrated my wife's birthday by spending the latter part of the day at the local mall. After buying some clothes and tasting some treats, I planned on concluding the evening by having dinner at this new fancy Italian restaurant. Since neither one of us had ever been there before, we had to inquire about where it was located. Just as we were ready to do so, we ran into one of those mall maps. The first thing that we needed to do was to determine where we were, before we could get to where we wanted to be.
Just as we read the words on the mall map, "You Are Here", the Bible also tells us that God has placed us on this earth in a particular period of time in history, and in a specific geographic region for the purpose of finding Him. God has set both chronological and geographical boundaries for our lives so that we would be in such a position to not only hear the message of the gospel of Christ, but that we would positively respond to it as well.
"The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance." 2 Peter 3:9
Another aspect of God determining when and where we live, is the fact that He has called us to Himself for a precise purpose. Once we surrender our lives to Jesus, we are called to fulfill a God-appointed mission in our lives.
"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." Ephesians 2:10
"And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?" Esther 4:14b
As we keep in mind that God not only knows about our existence, but is responsible for setting the parameters of time and space, we can rest assured that God has a purpose and a plan for our lives. Whether it is the family you have been born into, or the neighborhood that you live in, or the city you reside in, or the nation you are a citizen of, "You Are Here" for this moment in time to accomplish His will.
Embrace Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of your life, and then embrace the life that God has given you to bring Him glory.
