Why We Need to Grow

“We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers, as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing”  (2 Thess. 1:3).

Today we want to consider why we need to grow. For the most part, let’s let God respond to this question:

“We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers, as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing” (2 Thess. 1:3).

“Now concerning brotherly love you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another, for that indeed is what you are doing to all the brothers throughout Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers, to do this more and more” (1 Thess. 4:10).

“And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, as we do for you” (1 Thess. 3:12).

“So as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God” (Col. 1:10).

“Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ” (Eph. 4:15).

“And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment” (Phil. 1:9).

From these verses we learn:

1. God wants us to grow.
When we fail to take measures to grow, we fall back to mediocrity, and lose the joy of the Lord. It’s vital that we get back on track.

 2. God wants us to grow more and more.

For those who have faithfully served God for many years, may God continue to bless your faithfulness. But let’s not stop there. We need to proceed further, and not rest on past accomplishments. At every stage of life, God has something for us to learn and do. May He continue to surround us with His favor, and opportunities to grow and bless others.
