Where is Your Treasure?

Mitch Cariaga

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."  Matthew 6:19-21

The story goes about a man who took all his money and important things and put it in a suitcase and put it up in the attic.  He said that after he died on his way up, he’d stop by the attic and take it with him.  After he died, his wife checked and it was still there in the attic.  His wife said, “I told him that he should have put it in the basement.”

It doesn’t matter which way you go; either way, you’re not taking it with you.

It’s true that you can’t take your treasure with you, but you can send it on ahead.

So today I want to leave you with this simple question:  Where is your treasure?

If you’re buying things you don’t need with money you don’t have, then it’s showing you where your treasure is.  It’s right here and here it will remain.

But if you’re giving your life to things that are eternal and to a purpose that lasts, then you’re sending your treasure on ahead.

Jesus told us these words in Matthew 6:33: "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

Remember, do not put your very best into things that do not last.  You’ve never seen a hearst pulling a U-Haul!

This World is Not My Home

This world is not my home, I'm just passing through
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue
The angels beckon me from heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

Oh Lord, you know, I have no friend like you
If heaven's not my home, then Lord what will I do
The angels beckon me from heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.
