Where does my help come from?
"I lift up my eyes to the hills, from where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night, The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore. Psalm 121
I enjoy walking my dog in the evenings. It’s a nice time when the sun is setting, the temperature has dropped and the evening air is nice and cool. On the path that I walk the streets are lined with leafy tall trees and there is a spectacular view of the mountains. I can see the sunset at the beginning of my walk and by the end of my walk I can even see a brightly shining moon. As I feel the cool air I often wonder how Adam and Eve felt walking with the Lord in the coolness of the day described in the book of Genesis. Walking with the Lord in the Garden of Eden must have been such a joy. On these evening walks I try to imagine the Lord walking with me. Although physically the Lord is not walking right next to me I do experience His presence as I talk to Him and take in the wonderful sights of His creation. I purposely walk in the evenings hoping that the darkness hides me as I stroll along singing and talking to my awesome Creator. I’m pretty sure that onlookers can’t see the joy on my face and the rapid movement of my lips as I’m fervently expressing myself to my Savior and praising Him for all He has done.
One of the first things that I frequently do is watch the movement of my large German Shepherd to make sure we are both walking in step. We have walked together on this path so many times there is a rhythm to how we walk about. I am a fast paced walker and she has learned to walk along side me in the same quick step. She is a creation of our God, the pattern of her fur, her strong jaw, vast size and no two paws touch the ground exactly at the same time. Then I notice the trees and shrubs and no two colors of green are the exact same shade. The sky is not always blue but sometimes hues of orange, yellow or gray. I start to praise God, because His thoughts are not my thoughts and I am always overwhelmed with His amazing power. I take in the Lords goodness when I go out for these walks and sometimes it is simply the way the wind hits my face and cools me off. God has the power to do small, great and mighty things. The Lord has the power to help and care for me.
When I need help and I wonder what to do; I remember God has the power to help. He created the heavens and the earth without using anything visible. He never slumbers or sleeps and He is always watching and keeping me. The Lord is taking care of me during the day and during the night. God watches over my life now and forever more.
