What Kind of Sinner Are You?

Cliff Ellison

There are only two types of human’s beings, and they both are sinners.  One is condemned in Adam and the other is saved in Christ.  The operative word here is sinners.  We are all sinners, but the one who is in Christ is declared righteous and is justified by faith and expected to live holy, personal lives by the power of the Holy Spirit.

This brings to memory when I was a soldier and how the drill sergeants would frantically yell during the hand-to-hand combat fighting course, “there are only two types of bayonet fighters: the quick and the dead”, and then ask, "what type are you?"

Just like the soldier who trains extensively and puts his faith in his training to save his life, we as Christians are expected to study, train, worship and put our faith in Jesus.  We don’t have anyone yelling, but we do have someone reaching out to us.

Righteousness with God is given freely to all those who have faith in Jesus Christ for salvation according to God’s eternal planning.

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.  For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”  Romans 1:16-17 (NIV)

We have the opportunity to exercise our faith daily by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.  So like the soldier who trains persistently to save his life on earth, we are likewise to train to lose our life to Christ.

"For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it."  Mark 8:35 (NIV)

What kind of sinner are you?

Yes I Know!

Verse 1:
Come, ye sinners, lost and lonely,
Jesus’ blood can make you free;
For He saved the worst among you,
When He saved a wretch like me.

Chorus:
And I know, yes, I know
Jesus’ blood can make the vilest sinner clean,
And I know, yes, I know
Jesus’ blood can make the vilest sinner clean.
