Living a Life of Service

“’For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.’” (Ephesians 2:10; NLT)

“’For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.’” (Ephesians 2:10; ESV)

God did not put you here on this earth to live for yourself. He created you to become like Christ!

There are three things that you can do with your life. You can waste it. You can spend it. Or, you can invest in it. The best use of your life is to invest it in something that will last. The worst thing you can do with your life is to live just for today and live for yourself.

According to Mark 10:45 (see below), we know that Christ came to earth to do two things.

“’For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.’” (Mark 10:45; ESV)

As we try to become more like Christ, we must learn to live a life of service. This will help create a lasting, spiritual legacy.

Today, I want to take some time to medítate on the following verses about God’s call to service in our lives. Please pray over them and ask God to reveal new ways that you can serve with those around you.

“’Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.’” (Romans 6:13; ESV)

“’But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.’” (Acts 20:24; NLT)

“’But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.’” (Acts 20:24; ESV)

“’If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.’” (Mark 8:35; NLT)

“’For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it.’” (Mark 8:35; ESV)

You will never fully enjoy the life that God wants for you--the life that you could live--until you learn that it’s not about you. Go and live a life of service!
