“I have labored to no purpose; I have spent my strength in vain and for nothing. Yet what is due me is in the Lord’s hand, and my reward is with my God.” Isaiah 49:4
It’s easy to fall into the failure feeling. Life didn’t turn out like you had hoped. Your marriage didn’t work out, marriage #2 isn’t much better, your children aren’t perfect, you don’t have enough money.
Your life feels like a dream deferred.
Take a minute right now and think of a simple piece of string. That’s right. A lowly, ivory colored, frayed-at-the-ends piece of string. In itself, it seems pretty useless. But actually, the simple piece of string has many uses. For instance:
You can use it to sew on a button.
You can use it to floss your teeth.
You can fly a kite with it.
You can weave it into a necklace or a bracelet.
You can wrap a present with it.
If you put enough of these pieces of string together, you can make a rope.
There are almost unlimited amounts of things you can do with a simple piece of string.
This string by itself is pretty worthless, but put this string in the hands of a creative person and there are 1,000’s of uses.
You are just like a simple piece of string. You might feel unworthy. You might see your life as failure personified. But put your life in the Lord’s hand and you have 1,000’s of possibilities. Trust God. He’ll use you. He is your reward.
