The Love of God

Cathy Hurtado

Begin your time with God in prayer.

Praise God for who He is.  Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him.  Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.

Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart.

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.  1 John 3:1-3

Read 1 John 3:1-3.

God not only died for you, He brought you into His family and adopted you as His child.  That is how much He loves you.  In addition, He is in the process of transforming you to be like Christ.  This should give you hope and encourage you to walk like Jesus.

Apply God’s Word to your life.

Thank God that He has poured out His love on You and adopted you into His family.  Yield to His transforming work today.  As you read the Word, allow the Spirit to show you how to live it out today.  One way you can do this is by keeping your life pure, staying away from evil and being quick to confess when you’ve sinned.

Father, thank you for lavishing Your me with Your love and bringing me into Your family.  Today I submit to Your transforming work.  Guide me with Your Word; lead me with Your Spirit; show me your will for me today.  Since I am so deeply loved, help me to love others with that love. Amen.

Related verses to meditate on:

"He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God."  John 1:11-13

"For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory."  Romans 8:14-17

"So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise."  Galatians 3:26-29
