The Heart of the Matter
"I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve." Jeremiah 17:10
There are countless books on the market today about following your heart and about having self confidence. I think it's rather funny to see our society looking to the way of the world to succeed in family, business and personal pursuits instead of looking to God. All the wisdom we will ever need is found in God's word, first starting with the Book of Genesis about the creation of the world seeing that on the 7th day even God rested from His work.
"By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done." Genesis 2:2-3
In the Book of Genesis we also see that everything that God created was with the intent of goodness. He shows us throughout His word that He is good and holy. As we look to God there is no need to be self confident, but to find our confidence in Him. We can also be successful if we follow His commands and give our whole heart to Him. Placing God in the center of our lives will help us grow in a deeper relationship with Him. God will give us the power to resist the enemy and his schemes.
"I can do all this through him who gives me strength." Philippians 4:13
"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." James 4:7
Before you follow your heart and your own desires by doing what you think is good according to your own standards first seek God in prayer. Our motives are evident to God, because he searches our hearts. God knows our deeds and He will reward us according to what we deserve.
"The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" Jeremiah 17:9
Take time today to consider the condition of your heart and your motives. Seek time alone with God praying that he will reveal to you the areas of your life that you need to surrender to Him. We can live today with the reward of knowing our deeds are done with right intent and right motives. In the end we will receive the reward we deserve from the one who searches our heart and examines our mind.
