The Gift of Salvation

Cliff Ellison

"If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."  Romans 10:9

Two weeks ago I received a text at 6:30 in the morning.  It was from a young man I used to talk to during my lunch breaks when I worked for the State of California.  He has what I would call an inner city urban background.  It was by the grace of God that he could physically meet with me and discuss the Word of God.  Although He wasn’t medically diagnosed or physically disabled, I believe that he suffers from a form of PTSD due to his extensive life experiences of gangs, drugs and alcohol.  I’ll call him Ty for the sake of confidentiality.

Ty was in the hospital and wanted to see me.  The doctor’s diagnosis had just confirmed that his arm was broken and needed resetting.  During the preparation for reset, they found that his arteries were blocked and it was then that Ty realized he needed Jesus.  I guess the signs were there all along, he just didn’t see them.

The numerous conversations we had previously, recalling his past and all of the things that he had done wrong, asking questions regarding the relationship with his family and what it meant; and seeing that all of these things eventually revealed themselves when I asked him if he were ready to receive Christ.  When he answered, “Yes”, I was overjoyed.

The real reason Ty texted me was because he was worried about his spiritual condition more than his physical condition.  Now as he sensed the reality of death closing in on him, he wanted to talk about his future, salvation, and how to mend his relationship with God.  I talked to him last night.  He now has peace in his heart.  His body, heart, and soul are healing just fine.

"Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”  Acts 4:12

Salvation is a gift offered to all who accept it no matter what their past life may have been.

A.  Admit you are a sinner and accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

B.  Believe that Jesus died and that God raised Him from the dead.

C.  Commit your life to follow Him.
