The Falling Sparrow
"Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father." Matthew 10:29
A few weeks ago, my daughter Molly and I were walking along a sidewalk. She was about one foot in front of me. Suddenly, an object dropped from the sky not more than 6" in front of her face. It was so sudden that it made her shout. We looked at the ground and there was a small, light brown sparrow. He flopped a few times, then died.
My mind immediately went to the scripture that mentioned that a sparrow would never fall to the ground unless God was aware of it. I knew the scripture, but I didn't know that sparrows just fell out of the sky.
I guess that Jesus had a similiar experience because He used the story of a falling sparrow to teach a powerful point about God's care.
If the owner of the universe will notice one falling sparrow, He certainly is aware and definitely cares about us and our troubles.
So today, be confident and assured that our God has sparrow-like focus on you.
"His Eye Is On The Sparrow"
Verse 1: Why should I feel discouraged? Why should the shadows come? Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home? When Jesus is my portion, my constant friend is He. His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me. His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
Verse 2: Let not your heart be troubled, His tender word I hear. And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears. I draw Thee closer to me, a constant friend is He. His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me. His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
Chorus: I sing because I'm happy. I sing because I'm free. For His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
