"Then Jesus said to His disciples: 'Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes..."' But seek His kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well." Luke 12:22-23, 31
What are you looking for in life? How do you measure success? One way to determine that is by considering what concerns you most about today.
At the end of our most recent Egg Hunt at the Ontario Campus, I came across a dejected boy. I'm guessing that he was about 9 years old. I know why he was upset, his basket was completely empty.
I asked him how it had happened that he didn't find any eggs. There had literally been thousands of eggs laying openly in front of him at the beginning of the hunt. He had to deliberately step over plastic eggs that had been filled with some of his favorite candy in order not to crush any. At the same time, almost 100 other children quickly filled their baskets. He then sadly explained, "I was looking for the Special Golden Egg." The problem was that no such egg existed.
Jesus warns us not to try to find our security or significance in those things that merely meet physical needs. By looking to material things for fulfillment, we will never find the joy for which He created us. He tells us to hunt for the Father's Kingdom instead.
Food and clothes are just two examples of things we tend to spend too much thought, energy, and money on. God wants us to focus on the things that last, like Him, His Word (the Bible), and people. Are you stepping over opportunities to talk to Him, to do what the Bible teaches, or to impact others with His love?
Start an open-ended conversation with God right now. Ask Him to help you to find places in this day that you can please Him; maybe it's by trusting Him to provide what you need. I suggest asking for a chance to help meet someone else's need.
A number of children did just that at the recent Egg Hunt. They gave some of their eggs to a boy that had none. He then found a sample of God's Kingdom.
"Count Your Blessings"
When you look at others with their lands and gold, think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold
Count your many blessings money cannot buy, your reward in heaven, nor your home on high
Count your blessings name them one by one, count your blessings see what God hath done
Count your blessings name them one by one, count your many blessings see what God hath done
