The Church is Huge!
"For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For the body does not consist of one member but of many." (I Corinthians 12:12-14 ESV)
Recently, I had the privilege of attending a conference for pastors and other church leaders at a large church in Irvine, CA. The worship center, where the main sessions were held, had a capacity of about 3,500 people and this conference was sold out. Every time we gathered for worship and teaching, I was reminded about how the Church, the bride of Christ, the body is bigger than just us. It is encouraging and awe-inspiring when you are standing amongst a great host of people who in unison are singing and worshipping our Lord Jesus. Chills went up and down my spine more than once when the music and singing reached some amazing climaxes during the two and half days that I was there. It was amazing to come together with other followers of Jesus from every walk of life. There were people from almost every Christian denomination represented as well as people from numerous states from our country and even some from other countries gathered together under the banner of worshipping Jesus. We were challenged and equipped to be better leaders of the Church and for the glory of God.
What really spoke to me, though, was that I was, I believe, given a glimpse of heaven. Revelation 5:13 (ESV) says, “And I heard every creature [emphasis mine] in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!”
Here we get a sneak peek into what we as followers of Jesus get to do for all eternity. We get to worship God and bask in His presence. I believe I got a tiny taste of this last week and boy was this taste tasty! It was so great that I came back inspired and desiring that everyone get not only a chance to worship with other believers at a conference, but that all people have the opportunity to spend eternity with God in heaven basking in His presence and glorifying Him forever.
So what are we going to do about this? First, we must truly love Jesus and be captivated by his love. His love for us should be the foundation of our lives. Next, as we get to experience God’s love and his grace, this should motivate us to share this love and his message of grace with others so that we all will someday be able to be with God in heaven, worshipping Him for eternity in a place eternal peace and full of God’s goodness and presence.
