"For God so loved the world that He gave His One and only Son." John 3:16
This article appeared in a recent Wall Street Journal:
"Minutes before a violent earthquake shook Japan, Futoshi Toba was enjoying a quiet Friday afternoon after a month of nearly non-stop work since becoming the mayor of a small coastal city in Japan called Rikuzentakata.
He called his wife Kumi at 2:40 p.m. on March 11th to suggest that they take their two young sons to a barbeque place for dinner. She promised that she'd email him, soon, to let him know.
The conversation wasn't much, but fate doesn't always allow for eloquence.
At 2:46 p.m., tremors from the magnitude 9.0 earthquake, about 60 miles offshore, jolted Rikuzentakata, knocking out electricity and phones. Soon afterwards, a wall of black water, more than 40 feet high, smashed through the 20-foot high seawall and poured into the heart of the city.
"I considered just ignoring everyone, hopping into my car, and rushing to get her. But, I really couldn't do that," he said, explaining that his duties as mayor required him to lead his colleagues to safety. "I was thinking the whole time, I hope she was able to get away."
Mayor Toba had to make a choice, save my wife, or my city? That's not a choice any of us would want to make.
It's been over 2,000 years since another choice was made. God saw a lost world in need of rescue. No one else was coming to help, so God gave His own Son to save them, and us!
Thank you God for Your amazing rescue! Thank you for choosing us!
