Tell the World

Cathy Hurtado

"If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you.  If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.  Matthew 15:18-19

Jesus spoke these words shortly before He headed to Jerusalem to pay for your sins and mine.  In the days ahead, the disciples were going to face difficult days.  The holidays can be difficult days for those who follow Christ.  There are many family and work gatherings which can range from uncomfortable to down right painful.  In a non-work setting, you may stand out from your co-workers because you don't party the way they do.  As you gather with your extended family, they may not understand or appreciate the change that has happened in your life.  They may react negatively when you don't act the same way you did before you knew Jesus.

As we head into these settings, we need to remember that God has called us to be light and love.  Our family and friends need to experience our love over time before they begin to feel comfortable around us.  They can feel judged by us and we tend to feel persecuted  by them.  It helps to remember that those who do not know God are simply acting consistent with their unsaved spiritual condition, so don't be shocked by their behavior.  Ask God to enable you to enjoy their company in the same way Jesus was able to eat with tax collectors and sinners, and remain holy.  Ask Him to love them through you with His unfailing, unconditional love.

I'll Tell the World

I'll tell the world, that I'm a Christian,
I'm not ashamed, His name to bear;
I'll tell the world, that I'm a Christian,
I'll take Him with me anywhere.

I'll tell the world, how Jesus saved me,
And how He gave me a life brand new;
And I know that if you trust Him,
That all He gave me, He'll give to you.

I'll tell the world, that He's my Saviour,
No other one, could love me so;
My life, my all is His forever,
and where He leads me I will go.

For when He comes, and life is over,
For those who love Him there's more to be;
Eyes have never seen the wonders,
That He's preparing, for you and me.

Oh, tell the world, that you're a Christian,
Be not ashamed, His name to bear;
Oh tell the world, that you're a Christian,
And take Him with you anywhere.
