Teach Me to Number My Days

Mitch Cariaga

"Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is."  Psalm 39:4

There’s a website (www.deathclock.com) you can use that will calculate the approximate date you are expected to die.  You put in your birthdate, answer a few health questions, then it gives an estimated date for your death.  I assume it uses common actuarial tables to compute the date.

According to the site, my date of demise will be Thursday, November 15, 2046.  It even gives the amount of estimated seconds that I will live.  In my case, I have approximately1,067,878,312 seconds left in my life.

I often wonder if a person really knew the actual time stamp for his death, how would he live his life?  Would he live differently if he knew the actual seconds he had left?

Most of the time, we live life with a When-Then Attitude

When this happens, then I’ll be happy.  When I make more money, then I’ll be satisfied.  When I find the perfect person, then I’ll get married.  When I get my education, then I’ll have more opportunity.  When I win the lottery, etc.

The problem is the THEN rarely comes.  Why?  Because life is brief… it’s flying by.

My encouragement today is this:  Turn Then into NOW!

Make a decision today to be happy, satisfied and content.  Don’t wait for some future unknown event to transpire for your joy to be complete.

Psalm 118:24 encourages us to be NOW people…"Today is the day the Lord has made.  We will rejoice and be glad in it."

God has given us today.  He doesn’t promise tomorrow.  So with this one day God has given us, let’s make it our NOW moment!
