Stuck on a Stone

"The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the House of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God.  They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green."  Psalm 92:12-14

Chaplain Tim Sturgill points out that at many public parks and office buildings, monuments of planes are located somewhere near the entrance, or at another high visibility area.  The planes are placed on a concrete or steel structure that displays them to all who pass by.  Replicas of planes that once roared and soared are frozen in place and are inaminate.  They are impressive to look upon and perhaps stimulate thoughts of power and impact; however, they are now earthbound and inactive.

God, immutable and dynamic, has designed our lives to roar and soar.  He never intended for us to retire from our good works.  We may retire from our profession someday, but we must never become inactive in our Christian walk.  Psalm 92:14 makes it clear that we are to live a dynamic Christian life until the end.

God always has something planned and is always moving.  Even in moments when He appears to be silent, He is always working.  The question for us is, am I aware of His movement in my life, ministry, and community?  Are we tuned in to what God is doing?  Isaiah 43:19 says, "See, I am doing a new thing!  Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?"

Is God trying to give you a fresh start, a new beginning?  Are you stuck on a stone of tradition, unbelief or any other thing that keeps you from seeing the fresh things God wants to do in your life?  Most of us truly want to know what God desires for our lives, but often we are just simply too busy to listen.

A new beginning usually begins with an encounter with God.  Set aside a block of time (don't just squeeze it in!) and seek God.  Perhaps visit a place where no one can get in but God.  Turn off the radio, television, telephone, shutdown the laptop and then experience the silence.  Read scripture, pray thoughtfully and seek intimacy with God.  A fresh start, clear vision - roaring and soaring awaits!
