Last week, we experienced RAIN! Wow, I have been waiting for rain to water my yard, or wash my car, for a long time. So, when it finally came, someone asked me if I wanted to use their umbrella. Absolutely not! I wanted to feel the rain on my face as I ran to my car. I waited so long, but it made me think of the storms in my life and how God was my umbrella. Yes, there were times when I ventured out on my own not thinking I needed God to get me through the day, but became drenched in “self” and paid the price.
“When Peter saw the strength of the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, ‘Lord, save me!” Matthew 14:30
When Peter stepped out of the boat and started walking, he kept his eyes on Jesus. Here’s where my “self” kicked in. As soon as he took his eyes off of Jesus, he began to sink. Through the different storms that I have gone through in the past months, there have been times when I wanted to handle things on my own and not use my “umbrella”, and look to “self”. Oh that’s not good! In that storm, there sits my umbrella, not doing any good for me because I haven’t taken it out and opened it up so I have that protection. Storms come and go in my life, but God doesn’t.
“Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you." Deuteronomy 31:6
It’s the same with my relationship with Jesus. How often is He sitting there just waiting for me to use Him? Peter figured out that Jesus was there for him, but he needed look at him. Jesus was there for him!
So the next time it rains, think about how God is there for you in whatever storm you are experiencing...and is just waiting for you to look to Him and put your umbrella up!
