Stay Fully Charged

Lanita Perez

Come to me all you who are weary and burden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.  Matthew 11:28-30

I precede cautiously when the batteries in my electronics are running low. When this happens I tend to rush through conversations on my cell phone. My reading, typing and game playing are quickly completed on my IPad or laptop in fear that any second all will be lost. I have gotten into the habit of carrying my charger with me wherever I go and even going as far as keeping an extra one in my car for good measure. This plan guarantees I will never be caught without battery power in the event that I start to loose energy. When my husband was sick in the hospital I literally stayed busy on my cell phone and IPad. These two devices allowed me to communicate with my children, extended family, friends and co-workers, so needless- to-say the batteries were always charged.

I quickly recognized that if I wanted to move forward in spiritual, mental and physical strength I would need to stay fully charged by God. I had to make every effort to stay close to God and communicate through prayer and meditating on His word.

I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13

I recall a day I will never forget. It was the day my husband moved out of the Intensive Care Unit and nurses were settling him into his new hospital room. I rushed to get my daughter as she was scheduled for her routine echocardiogram down in the hospital basement and my son was complaining about chest pains. I finished up my daughters appointment and then my son was seen by the doctor to make sure he wasn’t suffering from pneumonia. I was overwhelmed, because everyone in my household was being seen by the doctor that day with serious medical concerns.

Although the three people I live with faced challenges I knew that God was with me through the struggle. The time I put aside throughout the day to seek God gave me the strength and power to keep going. God gave me peace and it had taken away the anxiety.

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6

Are you trying to get through life and all its challenges on a low battery source? Almighty God our created has an ample supply of power to strengthen you and carry your burdens. Will you start today by giving Him your struggles and allowing Him to give you the rest you need?
