"We have different gifts, according to the grace given us." Romans 12:6a
Finding your spiritual gift, or gifts, is a good step toward personal spiritual growth and a lifetime of rewarding service in God’s family. Learning our spiritual gifts is not secretive, difficult or complicated. God does not work to confuse us. He wants us to know and exercise our spiritual gifts.
Our spiritual gifts are ordinarily in harmony with our individual set of personal tendencies, passions and life experiences. If we like helping others, service is probably our spiritual gift. If we enjoy study and investigation, teaching is more than likely our gift. If others consistently benefit from our counsel and correction, the gift of exhortation is a good place to start in our search.
The next best indicator of our spiritual gifts is the confirmation of others. If we like teaching, but no one learns, we had better reconsider! If we enjoy leading, but no one follows, leadership and managing are not our calling.
Ask God today to reveal your spiritual gift or gifts. Examine your likes and dislikes, and seek the input of others. Above all, remember your gifts are given and determined by the Spirit and are to be used to bring glory to God. May God bless you as you take the next step in your spiritual growth and ministry to others!
