"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Ephesians 6:12
When I completed the Advanced Infantry Training in the United States Army, I felt mentally and physically prepared for any given assignment. But, it wasn't until I arrived in the Republic of South Vietnam in the summer of 1966 that I realized the true importance of that training. What once was a series of training exercies for evaluations and grades, only soon became a way of life and survival.
As Christians, we are currently in a spiritual battle that takes lifelong training. In fact, most of it is done by on-the-job training. Our spiritual growth process is never complete here on earth. It involves hearing, learning, and following.
Moses summoned all Israel and said, "Hear, O Israel, the decrees and laws I declare in your hearing today. Learn them and be sure to follow them." Deuteronomy 5:1. He asked the people to hear, learn, and follow the Laws of God. To win the spiritual battle, it is essential that we equip ourselves with the Word of God.
Hearing is absorbing and accepting information about God. Learning understands its meaning and implication. Following is putting into action all that we have learned and understood.
Battle Hymn of the Republic
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword
His truth is marching on
Glory, glory Hallelujah, glory, glory Hallelujah
Glory, glory Hallelujah, His truth is marching on
