Snow Flakes in the Wind
“Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” John 3:6-8
God’s Word restores and nurtures my soul. I am also strengthened when I see the principles of the Bible reflected in His unspoiled creation. Recently, I was up at Big Bear Lake on a bright and sunny day after a recent heavy snow. I sat and watched the periodic bursts of wind go through the tall Ponderosa Pines. You might wonder how I saw the wind. I actually didn’t see the wind, just like you don’t actually see the Holy Spirit. But I saw the effect of the wind gusting through those snow laden trees.
Not only was the wind’s presence manifested in the swaying of the majestic pines, but also in how it displaced the snow on the trees. It looked like it was snowing once again, only this time, with blue sky and bright sun as the backdrop.
The snow really glistened as it went wherever the wind carried it. I tried to watch individual snowflakes and guess where they would land. I was not often correct. It was a spectacular scene, one that plays out in most Alpine forests this time of year.
In John 3:6-8 it seems Jesus is saying we were meant to have a similar relationship with God. Jesus came so that we could be “born again,” this is a spiritual birth. When you admit and repent of sin, and then believe and receive Jesus, the Holy Spirit enters into you. Though He never leaves you, you must continually seek His influence. God’s Spirit wants to direct you in all the answers to the – Who, What, Where, Why, When, and How questions of your life today.
God wants you to glisten like those snowflakes, with the reflection of His Son’s presence. He wants you to give evidence to the Holy Spirit’s movement here on Earth. Where is He trying to carry you today? Ask Him to help you be under His influence. Ask Him to do something spectacular in and through you.
