Simplicity

Deb Goolsby

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up.  And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.”  Hebrews 12:1

What is my focus right now?  Am I being distracted by the little things around me that don’t count for eternity?  If I am honest with myself, I have to admit that I do let those distractions creep into my daily life.  Is my cell phone “attached to my hip”?  Is the TV keeping me from getting my Bible study completed?  Do I just need “a couple more minutes” after the alarm goes off, thus taking precious time away from my quiet time?

So do I throw my TV out, toss my cell phone in the trash, and give away all my books or my Kindle?

I’ve heard people say, “I would love to live my life for the purpose God has placed before me, but I just don’t have enough time.”  Why is that?  Have they taken the time to simplify their life?  What are the unnecessary things in their lives?

Think about this:
• Are you trying to be like others instead of who God created you to be?  “Ouch”.
• Am I (notice how I have changed from “you” to “I”) trying to make everyone happy?
• Do I have too many hobbies or too much time with a hobby?
• TV, social media, gaming? (You mean give up my cell phone or my favorite TV show?)
• Unwise relationships (those that distract us from our relationship with God)?

God desires a quiet time with us, a time to teach us through the scriptures, those moments of quiet where we can listen to His voice, times of rejoicing through song and prayer.

So what are we going to do?  Take time to think about “ the sin that so easily trips us up”.  Prayerfully consider how we can simplify our daily routine, thus simplifying our life.  Remember there are only 3 things that last for eternity:
God, His Word and people. (Not my cell phone or my favorite TV show)!

Where will we invest your our time?
