“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.”  Mark 10:45

Ministry is not about how well know you are, or how loud your voice can be heard; it’s about loving people and getting low.

What is your attitude about serving, be it in your church or your community?  Are you doing it because someone has asked you and you are doing them a favor?  Are you serving out of guilt?

As I am always looking for those that can serve our children here at Sunrise, I am overjoyed when someone tells me that they felt God’s nudge after the service, or as they were watching our kids in their small groups scattered around the courtyard on any given Sunday and wanted to be a part of the excitement.

When God spoke to Moses and told him to go and lead the Israelites out of Egypt, he didn’t think he was capable and equipped to go.  How many of us feel that way when we are asked to serve in a ministry, whether it be for a special event or for a ministry that is weekly?  What is getting in your way of saying yes to the call that God is giving you just like Moses?  Look at all that Moses endured in this process when he did answer the call.  Even through Pharaoh’s hardened heart, Moses continued to serve God and lead the Israelites.

Look at those in the Bible that served God: Noah, David, Joseph, Moses, Daniel.  Now those are the ones that we talk about with our little ones each week, but there are so many more names that are not so familiar in the Bible that had a servant’s heart.  If I ask, “What did they give up to serve God”, my question then becomes, “What did they receive in serving God?”  I think that’s a much more exciting thought.  You can be so blessed with the child that comes up to you in the grocery store and calls you “teacher” with a huge smile because you were the one who told her a great story that past Sunday.  What a love story!

Serving is love in its purest form.  Serving is the very heart of the gospel: “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve” Mark 10:45

Lord, help be to grow in humility and compassion.  Show me how to love the ones you’ve placed in my life as you love them.
