“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:1-2 (NIV 1984)
February 6 – Serve the Lord with Zeal
Begin your time with God in prayer.
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart.
Read Romans 12:1-2 out loud. It’s our verse of the year and we want to learn it.
"Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord." Romans 12:11
Apply God’s Word to your life.
This week, we are going to be making commitments, laying plans for action, and taking action.
We often lose our spiritual fervor for serving when we’ve neglected our personal time alone with God. When we spend time with God, His Word continually renews our minds and our hearts. Joy, zeal and fervor result from having spent time with God.
Evaluate your serving.
Are you going through the motions? Complaining? Slacking off? Is it a heart problem? What will you do about it? When?
Are you excited about serving the Lord? If so, I just want you to know that your excitement is contagious and ministers to the rest of us.
Father, help me to continue to give You all that I am and all that I have. Help me to spend time with You every day so that I am excited about the things of God. I confess that when I don’t read my Bible or make it to church, I lose my focus and my heart is affected. God, I want to serve You with zeal and spiritual fervor. Amen.
