Sensei Says (Sensei is the title of a karate instructor.)
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here!" II Corinthians 5:17
My 8-year old grandson is in a karate class. One day, as were driving him to class, he said, "Sensei says, if you say or think bad things about yourself, such as you are stupid or dumb, it hurts you more than if somebody says it to you. Because when you think it, you believe it about yourself."
As I thought about this, I was impressed by the truth of this statement. Many people have received so much negative input over the years that they now believe it about themselves. They are convinced that they are stupid, failures, inept, incompetent and unable to change etc. They have bought into a lie from the enemy to keep them from reaching the potential God has given them. Tragically, this belief doesn't leave just because you have come to faith in Christ. I have met many Christians who are continually struggling with a negative self image and believe that they are destined for failure.
The Bible tells us that when we accept Jesus, “The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17). Once we accept this truth, we realize that the Holy Spirit now gives us the ability to change, not only the way we live, but also the way we think.
What do you believe about yourself? What people have told you? What God’s Word tells you? People may say bad things about you, but God tells us that He created us and His works are wonderful.
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:14
I encourage you to start thinking about yourself as God sees you, not how you see yourself.
