Search Me Lord!

Scott Stevenson

"Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my concerns. See if there is any offensive way in me; lead me in the everlasting way."  Psalm 139:23-24

Wow! Search me Lord with the knowledge of knowing me when you knit me together in the womb of my mother.

"Your eyes saw me when I was formless; all ⌊my⌋ days were written in Your book and planned before a single one of them began."  Psalm 139:16

How often do we ask the Lord to search our hearts to find out what makes us anxious?  Am I willing to ask the Lord to look at those things and to test me in them?  Sin is all around and in all areas of my life trying to get hooks into me at every turn.  I must admit there are a number of things that concern me, and I'm constantly anxious.  The problem comes when I let this type of thought process control me.

David was a great king because he sought the Lord on a personal level.  He wanted God to test his loyalty to Him.  He wanted the Creator to show him what works and what does not work.  Are we willing to have God search us the way David asked to be searched?  Do we want to know the Lord this way?

I want to challenge you to join me in going deeper in our relationship with the Lord.  Look at your trials and testings in a different light.  Take the anxious thoughts and come to the Lord with the trust of a child…this is a requirement.  Take a step of faith by asking the all-knowing Father to search your heart, and to show you your sin so that you can turn from your sin and back to God.  Only God can turn the tide of sin toward righteousness, but we constantly have to come before Him in prayer and petition, asking Him for His help.

Join me in prayer:
Lord, examine my heart, reveal to me the sin that I may or may not know about.  Pull me from this darkened way of thinking and into a free and clear conscious before you.  Give me the power through your Holy Spirit to live a productive and fruitful life before your eyes.  I want to be victorious for You, but I need your strength and guidance to do so.  I submit myself to your examining of my wicked heart.  Help me in the coming days to respond to what is revealed with repentance and change toward You.  I pray these things in the name of my savior Jesus Christ.  Amen.

Search Me O God

Search me, O God,
And know my heart today;
Try me, O Savior,
Know my thoughts, I pray.
See if there be
Some wicked way in me;
Cleanse me from every sin
And set me free.

Lord, take my life,
And make it wholly Thine;
Fill my poor heart
With Thy great love divine.
Take all my will,
My passion, self and pride;
I now surrender, Lord
In me abide.
