"Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous, how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They are innumerable! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!" Psalm 139:14-18
Every time I reflect on this passage of scripture, I’m always more amazed and in awe of my creator, my God!!! God made every human being so wonderfully complex and to think that we are made in His image is hard to fathom!!! Recognizing that His workmanship is true perfection and that He watched us as we were being formed in utter seclusion, woven together in the womb is truly tough for my mind to comprehend; that every day of your life is recorded in God’s book; that every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.
Do you also realize that the word “surprise” is not in God’s vocabulary? Our God is sovereign and is in complete control of every detail of our lives. From God’s vantage point, the view is much different. God has predestined and taken account of every detail of our bodies. God knew your parents, the date, time, weight, length, and place of your birth. God knew the color your hair and eyes, your body structure, your gifts, your talents and personality. God knew your entire DNA. The Bible says in Isaiah 44, verse 2 that “I am your Creator. You were in my care even before you were born.”
These passages of scripture have special significance for me today as well. Today my daughter Amanda Michelle is due to give birth to her first child, Sadie Grace. At least today is the doctor’s expected due date. It’s interesting how expectant mothers will ask family and friends to guess the date and time of birth. People will guess the weigh and length of the child. Parents, grandparents and great-grandparents wonder with anticipation. Who will the baby will look like? Will the baby have hair and if so, will it have straight hair or curly hair? What about the hair color? What about the color of the baby’s eyes? What kind of complexion? People will even voluntarily give you their own personal experience on childbirth. Well, my first child was late. People will even tell you that the baby hasn’t dropped into position yet. Even today’s 3D sonogram technology attempt to give the parents the best image and placement of the child in the womb; however, people and doctor’s and technology are not perfect, but our God is perfect and everything He creates is good!!!
Sadie Grace, God thought of you first and God knew you before you were born. God knows you intimately. His thoughts about you are precious. In fact, God's thoughts about you are innumerable; they outnumber the grains of sand. Now that’s a lot!!! God created you. He loves you and His ultimate desire is to have a personal relationship with you. He wants to connect with you and for you to know Him. My prayer for your life is this…that one day you will receive God’s free gift of salvation by accepting Jesus Christ into your heart and commit your life to glorifying Him. I pray that you will love God and love others. Oh, and by the way, I cannot wait to meet and hold you!!!
For you Tia (Amanda), you are going to be a great mom because God created a passion and love for children in your heart. I love you!!!
