Oops, Wrong Turn!

"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."  Psalm 119:105

During the summer, many of us think about going on vacation.  It's amazing how easy it is to plan a driving trip.  You don't even need a map anymore.  All you need is a GPS navigation device.  Some new cars even have them built in.  Just put in where you want to go and your navigation device gives you step-by-step directions.  It even says, "recalculating" if you miss a turn and it gets you back on course.  At least that's the way it's supposed to work.  Here is an example of a failure:

In December of 2009, John and Starry Rhoads were traveling home to Reno from a visit in Portland.  They were driving on Highway 31, which goes through Silver Lake, Oregon.  The GPS unit told them to turn right onto a forest service road.  They followed that, as well as some smaller spur roads, for about 35 miles.  Their SUV then became stuck in over a foot of snow.  They were there for 3 days before they were rescued after getting a weak signal on their cell phone.

In the centuries since Christ was on earth, there have been many technological advances in communciation.  We can turn on our radio, television, computer, or smart phone and listen to various individuals give us direction on how to live our lives and overcome our problems.  The problem is, just like the Rhodes GPS, they may not be giving the best advice.  If the Rhoads had looked at a map and not depended solely on their GPS, they might have avoided their problem.  Likewise, if we depend on God's Word to determine the direction of our life, we can avoid many of life's probelms.

What are you using to direct your life, man's way or God's Word?
