No Turning Back

"But Ruth replied, 'Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you.  Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay.  Your people will be my people and your God my God.  Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried.  May the LORD deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separtes you and me."'

The story of Ruth is a remarkable account of a woman who exercised strong faith leading to a deep commitment.  She was a widow from the land of Moab, faced with returning to her own land and gods, or going to Israel and committing to the true God.  Her own land would provide her with family, friends, and familiar surroundings.  But relocating to Israel would bring her to a place unknown to her.  What would she do?

For Ruth, there was never a doubt.  She, as our text says, would side with God's people.  And Israel's God, the true God, would become her God.  Her will was fixed and could not be altered.  She made a firm commitment.  We need to do the same.

Committing to walk with God will bring trials, struggles, and even rejection from others.  Only a firm faith will overcome these pressures.  Half-hearted attempts to live for God always end in failure.  Jesus turned to Peter and asked him if he loved Him, Jesus, more than all else (John 21:15-19).  Peter would need to fully commit to God if he was to withstand the pressures that life would bring him.  It is no less true with us.

Sometimes, we decide things that later we regret.  We are fortunate when we can successfully change our minds and change course.  But we should never approach our decision to follow Jesus with even the slightest possibility of turning back.  It would simply not work.  Some people say, "Well, I'll try Jesus for a while and see if it all works out."  With that kind of faith, nothing will work out.

Let's follow the godly example of Ruth, and give God our best efforts.  Will we follow God?  There can be no doubt at all.  We will follow Jesus!

No Turning Back

I have decided to follow Jesus
I have decided to follow Jesus
I have decided to follow Jesus
No turning back, no turning back

The world behind me, the cross before me
The world behind me, the cross before me
The world behind me, the cross before me
No turning back, no turning back

You know when you decide to follow Jesus you're definitely right. One haas to make a true commitment to follow him. I accepted Christ at a very young age and it's been quite a journey for me because of the ministers and teachers that have been placed in my path. I started out as Baptist, then Faith ministeries and I attended the Church of Christ. God has allowed me to observe many things in all these ministries. In the Church of Christ the one blessed thing that I learned was "to try the Spirit by the Spirit, which is the word of God. That's why I'm at Sunrise Church today. The word of God is taught and lived in Sunrise. I continually pray for the pastors and teachers at Sunrise that God will keep them annointed to do His will and work
