Need a Blessing?
"In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'" Acts 20:35
Recently, I had the privilege of taking a team on a short term mission trip to Baja California. As we gave our time serving the local people, I was reminded of this truth when I saw the joy the team members were experiencing. I would like to share an example of the impact that giving can have on someone’s life. The following is an e mail I received from Daniela, one of the team members:
“Hello Jim! I wanted to take the opportunity to send you this email to thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to join the Mission's Trip to La Mission this past weekend. Let me tell you that it was one of the best weekends I've ever had. It was awesome in every way!! A true life changing experience but most of all a true blessing!! This was my first time doing outreach and I absolutely loved it! It was a great pleasure meeting everyone that was involved in this ministry from our church and from Familia De Dios Church in Tijuana and Elim in La Mission, wonderful God loving people. There was not one thing I did not like. Doing face painting with the kids was awesome! It brought true joy in my heart to bring lots of smiles to those children from the party!! Delivering the food baskets in La Mission was also awesome as was going to different homes and praying with and for the people in their homes and their community. Although Spanish is my first language I was never able to pray out loud for someone in just Spanish. I would get choked up and was never able to do it until this past weekend. I prayed by myself before going out to the deliveries so that God would give me the strength and the right words when praying out loud with the people that we would visit - and God did just that!!! We all held hands with this one family and someone asked me to lead them into prayer and I did it!! I was so proud of myself and I could just feel the Holy Spirit taking over!!! It was awesome!!!!! I came home and shared my experiences with family, friends, and co-workers so that hopefully one day they would want to do the same!! Before this trip I was thankful for the little that I had, but after I came back, it made me appreciate it even more! Not only material things, but my family, my children, my car, my job, etc. I praise God for this experience and I cannot wait to do it again!!!! Thank You sooo much Jim and Sunrise Church!!"
Taking time to give of her time and talents to others gave Daniela a blessing; the same principle applies to all of us. Think about what you can do for someone else, then do it.
