My Path or God's?

Deb Goolsby

"Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.  Then you will be prosperous and successful.  Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and courageous.  Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."  Joshua 1:8-9

It was twelve years ago this week that I had surgery to remove my thyroid due to a large growth that appeared weeks earlier.  When the test results came back from pathology, I was told that it was cancer and that I would need further treatment.  The big "C" word was touching my life and I wasn't really sure how to react.

As I clung to, "I will never leave you nor forsake you" (Joshua 1:9b), I realized that God had a plan for me, just like God had a plan for Joshua.  Isn't that how it is?  God's plan for our lives is His, not ours.  I remember telling others that "God knows what He is doing with me and I totally trust Him."  It wasn't an easy time and there were times when I wanted some other way out, but I kept coming back to Joshua and what the Lord had been telling him.

Joshua was going into war, but for me, I was also going into war with my body.  And I had to make the choice to keep walking through my journey with God.  As I continue to follow doctor's orders, I rejoice each year when I visit the doctor and he tells me that I am still in remission.  I give all the praise to God for our journey together.

What life experience is God taking you through at this time?  The loss of job?  A house?  Maybe the big "C" word is touching your life.  No matter what you are facing, the important question you need to ask is "what?"  What path are you going to choose to take?  Yours or God's?  I know what I chose!
