Many Parts but One Body

Cliff Ellison

"If they were all one part, where would the body be?"  I Corinthians 12:19

Sometimes the challenge of working in ministry can be very intense.  We need to block out everything around us so that we can focus only on the task ahead.  We become like the race horse, that has blinders put over his eyes so he will not become easily distracted, and only focus on the road ahead.  But unlike the horse, we don’t need a trainer or someone to take our blinders off.  We can make time, set schedules and be aware and involved in other ministries, and other important areas in our life.  Even among mature Christian workers, blinders are often left on.  Sometimes we become so engrossed in our ministry that we are unable to see the good that is done outside of our perspective ministry of choice.  It’s easy to forget that our ministry is only one part the body of Christ.

"As it is, there are many parts, but one body.  The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!”  And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!”  I Corinthians 12:20

A body composed of a single part is not a body and could not function as a body; it is the same thing for believers, with each playing his or her own role.  We must not fool ourselves into thinking that one particular group or gifting represents the entire body of Christ.

1. Pray for the entire body of the church.

2. Pray for your ministry to reach and effectively help others.

3. Pray for others to embrace and utilize the full body of the church.

We are One in the Spirit

We are One in The Spirit,
We are One in The Lord.
We are One in The Spirit,
We are One in The Lord.
And we pray that all unity may one day be restored.

And they'll know we are Christians by our love,
By our Love,
Yes they'll know we are Christians by our love.

Give us willing hearts to pray and seek Your will - fresh eyes to see you working, Lord - obedience to join you in Your work - may we receive all, building one another up, considering the other more important, forgiving one another, encouraging and empowering each one in their gifts, so You may be truly glorified - make us one, Lord - make us one - Holy Spirit, make us one - let Your love show, so our hearts will know, we are one in You. But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired. 1 Cor 12:18
