Look to God rather than your circumstances

Debbi Goolsby

“Samuel then took a large stone and placed it between the towns of Mizpah and Jeshanah. He named it Ebenezer (which means “the stone of help”), for he said, “up to this point the Lord has helped us!” I Samuel 7:12

Have you had those times when you fall to doubting how much God has been there for you? Do you need an Ebenezer to remind you of how much and how far God has brought you through? He is a faithful God who knows what is ahead of each one of us and is fulfilling the plans He has set for you.

The Israelites were terrified and begged Samuel to pray to God as they feared the Philistines who were about to attack them. God acted and the Philistines were driven away. So Samuel placed a large stone (an Ebenezer) to remind them every time they passed by the stone of how God had taken care of them.

Do you need your own Ebenezer stone to remind you of how faithful God has been? Make a list and add to it daily of how faithful God is in your life. Be specific and as the days go on, you will see that you no longer need your “Ebenezer stone” reminder. Your heart will be trained to focus on the Lord, and not the fear.

There are times of storms in our lives, and sometimes they blindside us; thus the temptation is to let the anxiety take over. We need to train ourselves to turn to God rather than our circumstances.
