Live and Tell
"I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20
What do you live for? “I live for”…
Who will you tell? “I will tell”…
How would you respond? I’m sure that many people would respond with various answers. How you respond reflects your values, priorities and the type of perspective or outlook you have on life.
Everyone is looking for something. Freedom. Love. Success. Peace. Happiness. And many people try to find it through the avenue of money, careers, fame, drugs and pleasure…but none of these fulfill or work. Nothing filled the hole or void in their chest or heart. Relationships crumbled; the money just caused more heartache; struggles and additions riddled their lives. Nothing satisfied. That is, until they became “Second”, and that changed everything.
In the 2014 World Series, Madison Bumgarner gave a performance for the ages. The MVP was virtually unhittable in the three games he pitched as he notched 2 wins and 1 save. Commentators excitedly spoke of history being made and how sports fans may never again see such a spectacular feat. After all of the confetti had fallen and the decibels had quieted, this soft-spoken pitcher put things in perspective. He said, "The biggest thing I want people to know about me is that I'm a believer, that I'm a Christian, not just a baseball player." When later asked what Jesus means to him, the San Francisco Giants star replied, "Everything! He's my Savior. I live for Him...I don't want to live for myself, I want to live for Him."
As disciples of Jesus Christ, your faith doesn't assure or guarantee you fame or notoriety in your respective jobs or lives, but it does position you to be and give your very best. Many people are deceived and fear that if they take a stand and are sold-out with a commitment to Jesus Christ, it will make them ineffective in the world. But Madison Bumgarner and many other people have demonstrated just the opposite.
What do you live for? “I live for”… Jesus Christ, He is First. (Phil. 1:21)
Who will you tell? “I will tell”… Everyone about my radical, life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ. (Phil. 1:18)
I encourage you to discover that God has a plan for your life.
A plan that says that “God Is First” and “I Am Second.”
