Knowing the Greatness of Jesus

Cliff Ellison

Signs and wonders of Jesus drew large crowds.  People followed Him because of the many miracles He performed. All the miraculous acts that they themselves would benefit from was the primary reason they followed Him.  He fed the poor, healed the sick, gave sight to the blind and raised the dead.  It seems natural and fitting, in a way, that Jesus should be revered and honored among the masses.  Unfortunately, many people of today liken to the people of the past are following Jesus for their own convenience.  They do not understand the fullness of the deity of Jesus and His relationship with God the Father and Him being God the Son.

Not understanding and knowing the total greatness of Jesus can limit our ability to witness to others and can also hinder our future blessings.

In our Sunday message, entitled, Who is Jesus?, the key verses were John 1:3-5.  It gives us a pre-incarnated resume of the life of Jesus; the life before He came down to earth in the flesh.  No other gods or god can produce a resume of such completeness.

“All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:3–5

Here Jesus' greatness unfolds before us.  In the beginning, Jesus was there to speak the universe into existence, He is the source of life and the light of men.  He will also escort all true believers into the present of God.  He is God the Son.

Following Jesus shouldn’t be something we do because it’s somehow convenient for us.  Following Jesus requires our full commitment and it will often look like a life of sacrifice, it’s not always easy.  But I don’t think dying on the cross for our sins was easy.

Do you follow Jesus for reasons of your own, or do you follow Jesus for His Greatness of being the Son of God?

Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow

Yesterday He died for me, yesterday, yesterday
Yesterday, He died for me, yesterday
Yesterday He died for me, died for me
This is history

Today He lives for me, today, today
Today He lives for me, today
Today He lives for me, lives for me
This is victory

Tomorrow He comes for me, He comes, He comes
Tomorrow He comes for me, He comes
Tomorrow He comes for me, comes for me
This is mystery

O friend do you know Him, know Him, know Him
O friend do you know Him, know Him
O friend do you know Him, do you know Him
Jesus Christ the Lord, Jesus Christ the Lord
Jesus Christ the Lord
