Jesus Loves the Little Children
Today I spent some time with a 6-year old boy who is dying of cancer. As I entered him room at his house, I greeted him saying, “Hi Dominic, it’s Miss Debbi”. He smiled the smile I saw each Wednesday when he would come to his Bible class. The first time I met Dominic, he had no hair because he was in the midst of chemotherapy. He would laugh when I would rub his little bald head and he would smile that big smile for me.
“Jesus loves the little children
All the children of the world
Red and yellow, black and white
They are precious in his sight,
Jesus loves the little children of the world.”
As I sang that song and told him stories of Daniel in the lions den, Jonah and the big fish, Noah and all the animals, I was so reminded of how precious children are to Jesus.
Matthew 19:14 says “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
Jesus took time for the children and they always wanted to be around Him.
As I sang, “Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong, they are weak but HE IS STRONG. Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me. The Bible tells me so”, I reminded Dominic that Jesus loves him.
We are reminded over and over again in the scriptures how precious children are and how we need to love them more and more each day. I challenge you to tell your child(ren) how much you love them today, right now! Tell them how much Jesus loves them, too. Take time to praise them and encourage them in whatever struggles they may be facing. They are a gift we have received from the Lord and it’s our responsibility to “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6
Thank you Dominic, for allowing me to share a short time of your life. Your smile blessed me each time you came down the hallway!
