January 5 – Endure Persecution
Begin your time with God in prayer:
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life. Yield your will to God’s will.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart:
Read Revelation 2:8-11
How does Jesus describe Himself in verse 8?
How can a church be materialistically poor but spiritually rich?
Of what were they not to be afraid (vs.10)?
We live in a culture where we try to protect our loved ones from hardship and suffering. God, on the other hand, tells us that we should expect suffering for our faith. There will be persecution and the devil will test us. His encouragement to us is found in Revelation 2:10 which says, “Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.” We need to learn how to walk with God through suffering and hardship now so that we can persevere through what lies ahead.
Apply God’s Word to your life:
· Expect suffering for your faith.
· Determine to be faithful unto death.
· Learn how to be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.
· Live for and focus on eternity. Be eager for the day we are delivered from this life to spend eternity with God.
Father, I praise You. Thank you for the hope of deliverance in the future. Help me to endure persecution with grace and love. Teach me how to be strong in You and in the strength of Your might. Help me to be faithful and walk closely with You. Amen.
