It's My Plan!
"In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps." Proverbs 16:9
When we look back at our life, we can often see where things we planned never came to fulfillment. Sometimes it is because we changed our minds or other times it is because of circumstances beyond our control. Here is an example:
I was employed as a police officer at Whittier Police Department when I decided I wanted to join the Highway Patrol and move to Northern California. I passed all the tests and was given a vision test. I was informed I failed the color vision portion of the test. Since I have normal color vision, I contested their decision. I was informed that they only hired individuals with perfect color vision. I was thanked for my interest and sent away. I was devastated, my plan for my life was destroyed.
Today, when I look back at my plan for my life, I thank God it didn't happen. I’ll never know what might have happened with my plan, but here are some things that happened without it.
1.) Because I didn’t leave the Whittier Police Department, I worked with the man who was instrumental in my accepting Christ as my Savior.
2.) I met my wife and began attending her church, where she got me involved in serving in ministry and spiritual growth.
3.) We moved East instead of North and came to Sunrise Church, where we are still growing and are involved in ministry.
Why don't you take a minute and look at what your plans for life are. Are they like mine were, that is, centered on what I wanted? Do you ask for God’s plan to prevail in your life, or do you just strive to accomplish your goals?
Make plans for your life, but when unexpected changes come your way, instead of thinking of failure, go to God with a submissive heart and allow Him to kindly lead you in a new direction.
