"The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross." Colossians 1:15-19
We live in a world that is so distracting. As I began to write this devotional, there were seemingly hundreds of things swimming around in my mind, all of them important, and all of the wrestling for my attention.
However, then I knew I had to stop, pray, and listen.
If we don't take time daily to listen to God, to hear His voice as He whispers to us in a still, small voice (I Kings 19:11-13) through His Word the Bible and through prayer and meditation on His scriptures, we can miss what He wants us to hear.
To whom does all of scripture point? Jesus. All disciples of Jesus, what should our singular focus revolve around? Jesus! If He truly is our God and we are His people, then our lives should be all about Jesus.
As a father who loves his wife and children, I struggle with demonstrating that to my family at times because my time is so divided with the various responsibilities that I have. But, what is it that truly demonstrates to my family that I love them and value them? Time with them, my undivided attention.
As you go through your day today, stop and remember that it is all about Jesus, His gospel of grace, and His act of love for us. That He died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins, and that He rose again to conquer sin, Satan and death. This was His ultimate demonstration of love for us. Spend time with Jesus today and show Him that you love Him. Also, spend time with those you love and show them that you are a Christian by your love for them (John 13:35).
