It All Begins in the Mind

"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things."  Philippians 4:8

What would happen if you went out and purchased a scrumptious cherry pie, put it in the refrigerator and then told yourself, "I just won't think about it, and therefore, I won't eat it."  Chances are that the pie would be gone in a day or two, but it all begins in the mind.  Sometimes it seems that we cannot control what we think, but God has not left us alone to wage battle with our minds.

Meditate on the words from this text:  true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, and anything excellent or praiseworthy.  It seems that the best approach is to crowd out the negative thoughts with positive ones.  Ask God for stength to think worthy thoughts, and to keep us from discouraging ones.

One practical word of advise:  Schedule a time each day to take in encouraging words from the Bible. 

Remember:  "Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him."  Proverbs 30:5 

Give your mind to Scripture and soon you will notice a difference. 

Pray this with me:

Lord, deliver me from vain thoughts that bring me and others down.  Fill my mind with Your glorious truths and lift my spirits each day.  Then help me to share uplifting words with others, and not give in to temptation to allow my thoughts to drift.  Above all, let me continually praise Your marvelous name.  Amen.
