Is Your Faith Worth Imitating?
"Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith." Hebrews 13:7
I know exactly where I was the first time I heard this verse. It was my senior year of college. I had been studying the Book of Hebrews in my quiet time, verse by verse. At the same time, I was trying to figure out what I was going to do with my life after graduation. I had just prayed and told God that I was willing to go anywhere in the world for Him…BUT I wanted something concrete to hold on to so that when times got tough, I would not waiver. Then I read Hebrews 13:7. I knew immediately that the leaders were those who had discipled me, taken me through 5-Step Follow-up, taught me to study the Bible, took me to church, and showed me through their transformed lives that God’s Word and Spirit change lives. I knew that they lived a life of faith. Some were college students reaching their campus for Christ and others had raised their financial support so that they could reach the next generation for Jesus. I knew that God wanted me to do the same.
God used this verse again in my life this past weekend. I was attending a leadership seminar. This time I was challenged from the perspective of a leader. Was I speaking the Word of God? Was I living by faith? Is my faith journey something another would want to follow? When someone looks at my life do they say, “I want to live like that?”
Whether we have an official title or not, people are looking at our lives. Our kids watch. Our spouses watch. Our neighbors watch. Our fellow students watch. Our co-workers watch. Our church family watches. My challenge to you and to me is to keep growing, keep yielding, immerse yourself in God’s Word. Live by faith, dependent on God, participating in His kingdom. Be someone whose faith others will want to imitate.
