4. Growing spiritual sensitivity
When we advance in Christ, God grants us greater spiritual sensitivity, as these verses indicate:
“And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment” (Philippians 1:9).
“But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil” (Hebrews 5:14).
In these days of confusion and chaos, we need more spiritual discernment and sensitivity. As we grow, we will increase in these.
5. Greater manifestation of the fruit of the Spirit
Paul lists these fruits in Colossians 3:12 and Galatians 5:22-23. Let’s look at the Colossians passage:
“Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.”
As we take steps in our walk with God, we will see a greater manifestation of the fruit of the Spirit in our life. We will bless others, but also see increasing joy in our own life.
6. Greater usefulness
Every Christian should long to be used by God. As we age, God may use us differently than He once did. But God can and will use every willing soul who steps up to the plate.
We can pray for others, visit the sick, participate in local outreaches, show mercy to others, teach a class or serve in children’s ministry. But growing Christians will always want to be used of God.
Lord, grant us the grace and desire to step up to our callings as ambassador of Christ. Provide us with the desire and opportunity not to coast or glide with the flow, but to put forth effort to use our gifts, talents and time for your glory. May Your name be praised. Amen.
