“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:1-2 (NIV 1984)
February 3 – Grow in Submission to Christ
Begin your time with God in prayer.
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart.
Write out Romans 12:1-2 from memory. As you write it out, think about what it means for your life today.
Apply God’s Word to your life.
This week, we are going to be making commitments, laying plans for action, and taking action.
Ask God to help you decide what you will do so that you can continue to grow in your walk with God.
How many weeks will you commit to be in the Worship Service? Try to identify the reasons you struggle with this commitment. Evaluate whether they are legitimate or thoughts that need renewing by obedience.
What will you do for daily devotions? Will you continue with the daily devotions on the Sunrise website? Purchase a daily devotional? Join a Bible Study that gives you daily time in God’s Word? Read the Bible through in a year?
What is your next spiritual growth step? Do you need Five Step Follow-up, Discovery 1, Membership Class…?
Father, I have been learning that transformation results from renewing my mind with Your Word. God, You already know the excuses I am making in my heart, the battles going on in my mind, the fears that I have for making these commitments. Guide me and empower me to make a good decision. Show me my self-centeredness. Help me continue to give all that I am and all that I have to You. Amen.
Related verses to meditate on:
"For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light." Colossians 1:9-12
"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ." Colossians 2:6-8
"Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory." Colossians 3:1-4
