"Then the LORD said to Moses, "See, I have chosen Bezalelson of Uri, the son of Hur,of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts - to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of craftsmanship." Exodus 31:1-5
The weather has finally cooled outside and I’m sitting quietly in front of the fireplace wrapped in a blanket my daughter crotched. I’m staring at the fireplace watching the flames and meditating on God’s word as I finish up my bible study lesson. I’m studying “The Life of Moses” and I’m reading Exodus chapters 30 and 31. The Lord gives intricate details on how to assemble, create, and design articles for His tabernacle. I wanted to skim and skip over some of the details as I started to read the chapters. I decided to keep reading when I saw the care and craftsmanship that went into putting the articles of the tabernacle together. I am fascinated by how God gave the craftsman wisdom, knowledge, understanding and the gift to work with tools to be a master crafter.
The last two questions of my bible study lesson are the same every week; “What have you learned about God in this week’s study? How may your group pray for you as you make this truth a part of your life?” The Lord has shown me His mercies as He gifts and equips His people to do His work. God is concerned with the details and the beauty of how things are placed together and presented. As we serve God we can ask for wisdom, knowledge and understanding. God is willing to help us if we submit to Him and He will accomplish the making of intricate and beautiful articles through us.
I strive for completing the task that are set before me and I feel productive when I am pushing forward, but in my anxiety I often leap before consulting with God and asking Him for His help. God has plans for us even before the beginning of time to do good works. For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10 When I seek God’s blessings I should be confident that whatever task He places before me I can accomplish it with dependence on Him.
There is nothing natural in me that will make me want to do things any other way than my own. I have to intentionally and purposely fill up on God’s word and allow for The Holy Spirit’s leading to even begin to see things His way. We are building His tabernacle and He is patient to give us direction and instructions on how to serve, worship and obey Him. He gifts us and equips us for whatever He asks of us. He also teaches and trains us on how to love others with His help. His way is the only way, because God is Holy.
As Christians we have received the most important gift of all, the Lord Jesus Christ. In addition to the gift of Christ our God has also gifted us with the ability to accomplish amazing works through the power of his Son.
How are you building on His tabernacle? Is your work dependent on God’s help or are you using your own blue prints? Will you take the time to spend with God so He can be the master instructor of all that you create?
