“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
Have you ever gotten an invitation to attend a special occasion, like a Christmas party, a wedding or something of that nature? We all have probably seen invitations that required an RSVP. This means, “please respond” and usually within a certain time frame. To ignore the invitation is really an insult to the person inviting you. God has a special invitation and a free gift with your name on it. It’s personal. It’s for you; it has your name on it (Eph. 2:8-9).
We celebrate Christmas and rejoice over God’s most precious invitation and gift to us. The birth of Jesus Christ is a gift from God. It’s a gift we don’t deserve, but the gift of Jesus Christ explains His purpose for mankind.
This special invitation and gift from God was not an afterthought. Before there was a stable in Bethlehem, before Adam and Eve ever set eyes on each other, God decided to send His Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins. From the beginning, God knew mankind would fall short of His Holiness and His Righteousness, and that mankind would fall short of His Glory (Rom. 3:23). That is why God’s Word proclaims that Jesus Christ was slain from the beginning of the world. God’s decision from the very foundation was that Christ would come to this earth to live, to die and rise again from the dead. God’s gift to us proves His purpose to redeem all people from the bondage of sin and death (Matt. 20:28).
Christmas is all about God’s invitation and His gift in the deity of Jesus Christ. Christmas is not about decorations or shopping or the gifts under a tree. Christmas is about a gift God gave on the tree where Christ died for our sins. God invites each one of us to come into His presence, to believe. and receive His free gift, eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord and become a child of God (John 1:12).
Will you respond to this RSVP from God? Today is the day of salvation!!!
In a Cave a Lowly Stable
In a cave a lowly stable,
Christ our Lord was born;
From the heavens white robed angels
Sang that holy morn.
Shepherds heard, the heav'nly chorus
And were sore afraid;
But an angel spoke the tidings
That all fears allayed.
"Born to you in David's city
Is your Lord and King"
So an angel to the shepherds
Hope and joy did bring.
Leaving resting flocks behind them
Sought they for the stall
Where they lay, in swaddling garments
Christ, the hope of all.
Let us, like the lowly shepherds
Seek the Lord this night,
That we may, by lives of service
Bring to all True light.
Noel, Noel! Noel, Noel!
Rang throughout the sky;
Noel, Noel! Noel, Noel!
Praise to God on High!
