God's Got Your Number
"Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father's care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows." Matthew 10:29-31
830797478. I will probably never forget that number. When I was studying at university, all of the students were issued an ID card. Each ID card had our photo and our student number. That was my student number. Our student number was used for everything. When we took a test, we had to write our student number. When we signed up for classes, we had to enter our student number. When we filled out paperwork, we didn't have to enter our names. We would simply enter our student number. They changed these numbers twice during my studies, so we all had to remember a new number. Fortunately, we used it so often that remembering it was easy. One day I was in the restroom in one of the buildings and saw that someone had scratched into the mirror, "689723187 loves 759813376." We didn't have names, we were just numbers!
There were only 18,000 students at the school when I was there. Compare that with the nearly 7,000,000,000 (7 billion) people on the earth today. Yet, incredibly, God knows you. He knows you and everything about you! God cares enough about you to pay attention to how your day is going, to listen to what you have to say, and to try to help. You're not just a number, another face in the crowd. God doesn't assign you a number; He knows the number of the hairs on your head! You are someone God loves, and He died to give you the opportunity to be His friend.
The next time you're feeling alone, down, or left out, remember that God knows you and loves you. When you are going through your life, remember that the people you meet are also people God knows and loves. When you pray, remember that you are talking to a person who listens to you, knows everything about, and loves you anyway.
