God is Not Stingy

Sam Petitfils

"For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless."  Psalm 84:11

I recall many years ago attending my early morning English class at Tennessee Temple University.  My teacher was a former missionary whose husband died in a tragic automobile accident.  Each day we began the class with this verse.  She then exhorted us to take these words to heart.

In light of the tragedy she experienced, she could have grown bitter.  Instead she saw everything as coming from the hand of God, and God only gives good things to His children, though we may not recognize them as such.

"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."  James 1:17

1.  God gives His children good things, but we don't always recognize them as such.

2.  Remember God's purpose for us might differ from our own purpose for our life.  He gives us things to fulfill His purpose, not necessarily ours.

3.  The sooner we align our purpose with His, the quicker we will recognize the good gifts He gives.

The Solid Rock

My hope is built on nothing less, than Jesus blood and righteousness

I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus name

His oath, His covenant, His blood, support me in the whelming flood

When all around my soul gives way, He then is all my hope and stay

On Christ the Solid Rock I stand

All other ground is sinking sand

All other ground is sinking sand
