God Chooses to Forget

"Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."  (Hebrews 12, 1-2)

It is hard for me, as a human being, to truly understand and comprehend just how much God loves me.  I believe that He loves me, I accept the fact that He cares for me.  I know that He sent His only son to die on the cross for me.  I believe that because of His sacrifice, my sin is forgiven and I have eternal life.  But so many times my actions contradict these facts.

For example, in 1 John 1:9 we are told that: "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."  Yet I find myself dwelling over past sins and mistakes, I keep on beating myself up because of them, even though I confessed them to the Lord, I repented of them and I asked for God's forgiveness.  We are given an amazing Gift of forgiveness and eternal life.  God wanted us to enjoy life to its fullest.  Jesus said that "He came that we may have life, and that we may have it more abundantly" (John 10:10), but because of the weight of sin, it is impossible to enjoy life.  It is constantly hanging over our heads, it's always there in the back of our minds.  Jesus came to this earth because of our sins, that's why He endured the cross, despising the shame.  It is so that your can be forgiven.  Because of that sacrifice when we confess our sins, and repent of them, God forgives us.  When God forgives He does not keep a record of our sins.  He chooses not to remember our sins.  He lets us start afresh.

“Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”  Hebrews 10:17
"For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”  Hebrews 8:12
"That God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation."  2 Corinthians 5:19
“I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins."  Isaiah 43:25
"For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”  Jeremiah 31:34b

When we come to God for forgiveness, He will forgive.  He isn't going to point out the fact that we already came to Him many times before, maybe even with the same sin.  He will forgive us.  And the best part about it is that He chooses to forget.  We as humans don't have this ability, but God does.

So, remember how much God loves you.  If there is any unconfessed sin in your life, bring it to God.  Confess your sins to Him.  Repent of them, and He will forgive you, and He will not remember them any more.  Satan will try to bring back past mistakes and sins into our minds over and over again, but don't let him. Remember… God forgot.
